Andover Ladies 1's 6: Alton 0
Andover Ladies 1st XI's final game of the season was a Monday night rearranged fixture. Victory would secure a well deserved fourth place in their return to Hants Div 1.
Playing the already relegated Alton, Andover were never under much pressure and it only took them 10 minutes to score, where a saved strike on goal by Karen Winnett was pounced on by Rhea Li who slotted it in.
The second came from a quick attacking free hit, with Emily Lawson crossing the ball in to an unmarked Sammy Meredith who finished it from close range. Andover eased off up to half time, allowing Alton to exert some pressure but Karman Norman was cool in goal, easily saving any attempts made.
Andover stepped up a gear in the second half. A shot on goal by Chloe Franklin was saved on the line by a defender. Sarah Wiseman, playing her last game before going to university, stepped up to take the penalty flick and confidently slotted the ball into the top left corner.
To round off a fine result, captain Karen Winnett fired home a hat trick in the last 15 minutes. The first came from a cleared ball falling straight to Winnett, who struck from the top of the D into the bottom left corner. The second two were identical goals arising from penalty corners. Two powerful straight strikes gave the keeper no chance to save.
As we say goodbye to Emily Lawson, Sarah Wiseman and Sian Sorenson who all move on to new adventures, Andover ladies look forward to welcoming new members to the club in their drive return to South League hockey.
